COMMUNITY & CULTURE

Building strong, vibrant communities in the Negev region

Dimona Theater

Dimona Theater
  • One spirited community where a new cultural oasis is emerging is Dimona, a city in Israel’s northern Negev region. With a population of over 35,000 people, it is currently the third largest city in the Negev and is projected to triple in size by 2025
  • The city is home to the Dimona Theater, established in 2011, which is now the largest cultural center in the city.
  • Run by artists and staff who are dedicated to serving their community, the theater produces plays exploring Jewish history and life in the Negev which are free to see for all Dimona residents. The theater even hosts an after-school program for children living under the care of the state.
    • When not writing, rehearsing, or performing, these individuals volunteer their time in community service projects that are especially focused on youth development.
    • Check out the Dimona Theater on Facebook for more info on performances and community service projects
  • In order to continue serving the community, the theater needs various renovations:
    • Addition of a new performance hall
    • Expansion of seating in existing hall
    • Development of an art gallery that showcases the Negev region’s many talented artists.
  • In this way, we hope to transform Dimona hopes into a local and international model of artistic activity based on a new sense of interaction between community, theater, and art.
