The Initiative obtained $120,000 in federal FY 2004 funding towards
a new Ohio-Israel Binational Agricultural Research and Development
(BARD) Fund. The funding was not enough to start a new state BARD program
this year—which requires a minimum of $250,000 a year for three years from
both sides. While we will seek additional U.S. funding from various government
and private sources, we are beginning, in the meanwhile, a new “mini
grant” program with the available funding. We have rafted guidelines,
a request for proposals, application procedures and funding decision mechanisms,
and are assembling Ohio and Israeli review committees. Farmers, for-profits & non-profits,
local governments and educational institutions will be eligible
for funding.
