The event will be a gala concert at 3:00 p.m. featuring members of the Cleveland Orchestra and the Mike Petrone Ensemble. An Israeli wine and hors d’oeuvres reception will follow.

The Negev Foundation is sponsoring the event. It is the only foundation exclusively devoted to the development of the Negev in Israel and the fulfillment of David Ben-Gurion’s vision.

Sam Hoenig, President of The Negev Foundation in , has joined Voinovich on some of his Israel trips. “He is a man who for thirty-six years has stood behind initiatives to develop the Negev and supported the growth of Israel ,” says Hoenig.

The Negev Foundation promotes initiatives that contribute to the overall economic self-sufficiency of Israel ’s southern region, the Negev . It encourages replacing philanthropic support with income derived through the sale of technology and business ventures.

The $500,000 that the Negev hopes to raise from this event will go to build the new Ramat Negev Desert AgroResearch and Business Center . Estimated to cost 2.5 million dollars, the 12,000 square-foot multi-faceted, modern structure will expand the scope of research, assist in generating agribusiness ventures and accommodate sophisticated equipment to answer the increasing demands for service. The Business Center will be named after Senator Voinovich.

“Voinovich is an outstanding, forthright, honest, and empathetic human being,” says Samuel H. Miller, Co-Chair of the Tribute, Co-Chairman of the Board, and Treasurer of Forest City Enterprises, Inc. “Whenever he is honored I have to be involved because he is a man who time and time again stands by the Jewish people and the State of Ohio .”
